Coming to MSS for the first time? WELCOME!

Grade 9 is an important and challenging transition from Grade 8. There so many changes to deal with: a new school, all new teachers, new schedule, new friends, new rules, and new activities! We would like to facilitate this experience if we can. 
 
Some of the events and activities we run are:
  • Open House – Grade 8 Information Night, Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at 6:30 pm: All grade 8 students and their parents/guardians are invited.
  • Course Selection Meetings: Guidance counselors visit Grade 8 classrooms to present this information and answer questions about the transition to secondary school.
  • Grade 9 Barbecue: Usually the last Wednesday in August – before school starts, with classroom orientation activities. Announcements will be made if it will be held.
  • Grade 9 Interviews: First semester – guidance counselors will meet with every grade 9 student to discuss how the transition is going and any problems occurring.
  • Grade 9 Shadow Day: (in May) Grade 8 students are invited to MSS for a day to ‘shadow’ a current MSS students for part of the day.

Graduation Requirements have recently changed for the Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Please refer to this link for the new requirements for Grade 9 students.
